Language level test
free, from A1 to C1

What is your level in French, Dutch or Spanish? Piquoli's test adapts to your answers: it moves up a level when you succeed, stops when it gets too hard, and places you on the European scale (CEFR), from beginner A1 to advanced C1. It takes about 10 minutes.

How does the test work?

The test starts at level A1 and moves up a level after two correct answers. Two mistakes at the same level and it stops for that skill: you don't waste time on questions that are too easy or too hard.

It assesses five skills separately, because you can understand a text well before you can write it. Your overall level is the average of your results, and each skill keeps its own level.

At the end, Piquoli unlocks the topics at your level and suggests a path to progress from there. You can retake the test at any time to measure your progress.

The 5 skills assessed

Vocabulary

The test levels (CEFR)

The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) describes six levels. Piquoli covers the first five:

A1

The basics: introducing yourself, greetings, numbers, colours, family, food, home.

A2

Everyday life: shopping, travelling, health, work, weather, asking the way.

B1

Telling stories and giving opinions: plans, memories, hobbies, news, feelings.

B2

Society topics: economy, media, environment, science, law, business.

C1

Expert level: debate, arts and literature, philosophy, nuanced vocabulary.

Questions about the level test

Is the level test really free?

Yes. The test is part of the 7-day free trial: no payment method is requested, and you keep your result even without a subscription.

How long does the test take?

About 10 minutes. It is adaptive: it stops as soon as it has found your level in each skill, with at most 12 questions per skill.

Is the result an official certificate?

No. The test gives a reliable estimate to start learning at the right level, but it is not an official certification such as TOEIC, DELF or the Goethe-Zertifikat.

Do I need a microphone?

No: the speaking skill can be skipped. If you have a microphone, it completes the result, and speech recognition even works offline on your computer.

Can I retake the test?

Yes, as often as you like, for example every month to measure your progress.
